Entering the final round, he was two strokes behind leader Matthew Wolff. DeChambeau then produced a closing 67, the best score of the day by three strokes, to finish at six-under-par and win the championship by six shots. 

His victory was particularly notable because Winged Foot is regarded as a demanding U.S. Open venue. DeChambeau was the only player to finish the championship under par.

At Pinehurst No. 2 in 2024, he entered the final round in contention and eventually defeated Rory McIlroy by one stroke.
