In 1913 a young amateur at the age of twenty and a few years shocked the golf world. Ouimet himself had caddied in this club. He had to challenge golf legends like Harry Vardon and Ted Ray even though he was inexperienced.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There was also a remarkable performance where Ouimet fought his way out of the 18-hole playoff where he toppled both professionals. His win wasn&#8217;t just a personal triumph. It created gigantic curiosity about golf among average American society. What caught people unawares is that success no longer belonged to the rich or the highly networked individuals.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Due to incidents such as this, The Country Club Brookline has been able to host 17 USGA national championships.
