H2: Tournament Overview: What will happen in 2025

Just as it has become tradition, the Valero Texas Open will be played at the TPC San Antonio (Oaks Course) in San Antonio, Texas. Created by PGA Tour legend Greg Norman and player consultant Sergio Garcia, the course moves away form the modern aesthetic to a more natural appearance and feel – all the while, never leaving the confines of the fan-devoted experience principles of the PGA Tour itself.

Defending champion Akshay Bhatia (who won the event last year with a score of 63-70-68-67, 268) will certainly be eyeing to defend the title again in Texas with a purse of 9.5 million.

Contested in the 72 Hole Stroke Play format, it is ever a closely contested event in generally challenging conditions and this one does not appear to be an exception.

H2: Players to Keep an Eye on

The Texas Open as usual is competitive and there are a couple of players to watch out. The Texas Open of 2025 is not an exception as it has gathered a list of strong players. Let us take a closer examination at some of them.

Hideki Matsuyama is the 6th ranked player in the world and he will certainly be hoping to make a statement in Texas this year. Russell Henley has finished in the top ten three times already this season and will surely be looking to build on his fourth place finish at this event last year.

The current world number 4, 11 and 12, Collin Morikawa, Tommy Fleetwood and Patrick Cantlay have also committed to playing at this year event which is also expected to be utilized as a competitive slate ahead of the Masters.

Lucas Glover has won six times on the PGA Tour, it is his seventh appearance in the Texas Open but the experienced player has never finished in the top three. Chris Kirk is a six-time winner on the PGA Tour as well and makes his 12th appearance in the Texas Open this week. Probably playing it before the Masters (where he tied 16th), Kirk will no doubt be keen to get a victory to add to his already extensive repertoire.

Last year Denny McCarthy finished second, losing out in a playoff to Akshay Bhatia and will surely be determined to improve on that showing as well.

H2: Winners of the Last Seasons

The event has been previously utilized as a grand curtain call before the Masters as we had pointed out earlier in the article. This Open has already seen some of the big names pass through and take the victory. And that would be namely, Arnold Palmer, Ben Crenshaw, Zach Johnson, Jordan Spieth and most recently Akshay Bhatia.
