Design and Architecture of Sea Island Golf Club

Design StyleTraditional links-inspired routing
Green ComplexesSubtle slopes and contours
Fairway ShapeSoft rolling movement

The design at Sea Island Golf Club is not a straight, power-driven one but rather one that emphasizes the strategy. While not overly challenging for elevation, the course is consistently changing from one angle to the other, with wind, and from green to green. Natural land movement is also well harnessed as an additional tool to the course, rather than relying on artificial shaping.

Basket-style pins installed on greens are popular amongst golfers and give an old-school feel; reminiscent of clubs such as Merion. Everything is traditional, sophisticated and extremely playable all in one.

Sea Island Golf Club is designed with a natural route along marshes and along water. The first nine offers better buoy and is a tighter area, the second nine stretches out to the Atlantic coast and has setaria.

What is interesting is that many of the par 4s have similar lengths. But the holes never get old because the angles, winds, bunker shapes and green shapes are always going to change. Therefore, the player remains in his game all session.

Signature Holes at Sea Island Golf Club

The 13th hole would be the best known hole of the Seaside Course. This 409-yard par 4 meanders slightly to the left towards the ocean and presents one of the best views. One side is covered by marshland and the other side is surrounded by bunkers. So, there is a need for players to select safety and aggression from the tee.

The 14th is another incredible back nine as it long luns around the right side of the salt line. If the player challenges the corner gets a better angle into the green, but marshland awaits any error. Furthermore, the 17th hole provides one of the hardest par-3 holes on the course from day to day as wind direction can affect the challenge drastically.
